Recently the African Centre for Biosafety used an independent and accredited GM laboratory in the Free State to conduct tests on some of our leading baby food brands. The results found high levels of genetically modified maize in Purity baby foods and that Nestle and Aspen appear to be avoiding GM content in baby food which is the good news in the story. What was always remarkable about the results is that the cost of Purity baby foods is on average 250% higher than the non-GM baby foods from Nestle and Aspen. This is remarkable because one of the largest defenses around this freak food – and I’m swallowing rage here – is that corporate lab food will drive the costs of food down and feed more people in the world.
